Tysons Corner is steeped in history, but before it was Tysons Corner, this large parcel of land was a peach orchard that was purchased by William Tyson from Maryland. He named it Tysons Crossroads, later changed to Tysons Corner. Another factoid was that the intersection of Route 123 and Route 7 was never all the roads or the place everyone thinks it is—it was actually a pass through for transporting people or goods from Washington D.C. to Leesburg. Now, Tysons Corner is the home to two Regional Malls—Tysons Corner Mall and the Galleria (sometimes called Tysons II). This community is the corporate headquarters to Intelsat, Gannett, Hilton, Freddie Mac, Capital One, Booze Allen, MITRE, Spacenet and many other companies. Tysons Corner is considered Fairfax County’s central business district.
