Winchester, VA is located about 1.5 hours outside of Washington, DC to the West.  Winchester  is located in Frederick County, VA which borders Warren County and the State of West Virginia. Access to I81 allows for easy travel to all points of Virginia and West Virginia.

Winchester has been long known as the “Apple Capital of the World.”It is notorious for its rich history. It is also the home of Shenandoah University and numerous civil war sites.

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley - This museum of the history of the Shenandoah Valley features special events and concerts. It is dedicated to interpreting the art, history and culture of the area.
Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum - A place where a child’s dream just might come true.  Children participate in the creative and whimsical displays all while learning.
Handley Regional Library -  A historic library building in the heart of the City of Winchester.  It was completed in 1913 from funds from a wealthy Pennsylvania businessman.
Jim Barnett Park - Enjoy a fitness trail, disc golf course & playground, plus indoor & outdoor pools.
Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters  Museum - This historic home was used as General “Stonewall” Jackson’s headquarters during the  winter of 1861-1862. The house contains the largest collection of Jackson memorabilia and also personal objects from members of his staff. 
Abram’s Delight Museum - This home was built in 1754 and is one of the oldest in the city. It is a wonderful example of early settlement life in the Shenandoah Valley.

Transportation Options

Major highways that connect Winchester to all other parts of Virginia include Interstate 81 and Route 55, Route 522 and Route 340.
Another travel option is the Winchester Regional Airport located in Front Royal’s Shenandoah Valley.

Annual Events

Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival - Fondly known as “The Bloom,” this huge annual festival is a beloved local tradition in Winchester for over 90 years. Residents sport their pink and green attire to show their local pride. This is a week of fun activities including a carnival, two parades, dances, luncheons, over 100 craft vendors, bands, dinners, wine & fine arts, a 10k race, carshow, parties, and celebrities. Crowds of over 250,000 attend this annual festival.
135th Skirmish of Fort Shenandoah - May 19-21.Civil War units dress in authentic 150 year old uniforms and compete with original or authentic reproductions of Civil War weapons, cannons, and mortars.
aMuse Arts and Crafts Festival - May 27-28. Located at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, this festival features local and regional artists displaying and selling their artworks.
