Sterling is located northwest of Herndon, east of Ashburn, and west of Great Falls.  It is situated adjacent to Washington Dulles International Airport in the middle of Loudon County.

Sterling is known for its deep historic roots.  Before the major expansion of the city it was home to Jessse Hughes Dairy Farm which was situated over 1700 acres of what is now Leesburg Pike.  Sterling is known in history as being in the middle of everything, making it a very sought after city to live in.
