Geographic Location

McLean is a major hub for transportation in Northern Virginia.  Roadways such as the Capital Beltway, George Washington Parkway, Interstate 66, and Dulles Access Road all run through McLean.  McLean Station on the Washington Metro Silver Line opened in 2014, and provides rail access to Reagan International Airport and in 2019 Dulles Airport.
 

Defining Characteristics

Looking for some green space, McLean offers a wide variety of parks for all activities. Scott’s Run Nature Preserve for hiking, Claude Moore Colonial Farm is a living history museum that portrays family life on a small farm just prior to the Revolutionary War.  Clemyjontri Park is an elaborate kid’s park with a carousel, swings, slides, and pavilions for picnics.  Great Falls Park, Billy Goat Trail, keep watch for canoes and kayaks as the pass by in the chilly waters of the Potomac River.
 
Looking for something indoors, head over to Tysons Corner Mall, with 300 department and specialty stores including a 16-screen stadium seating and IMAX Theatre, fine and casual dining restaurants and multiple food courts.  Looking for a more upscale experience head across the street to the Tysons Galleria.   This upscale three-level mall, includes a Ritz-Carlton hotel with an additional 88 shops including Neiman Marcus. Every store you could possibly imagine for your shopping convenience is located just a few minutes from your home in McLean. 
 

Transportation

McLean is known for its luxury homes in well-established neighborhoods with tree lined streets to the new high-rise condos and apartments by the Silver Line Metro.
 

School district

McLean has three of the top high schools in the nation.  Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, McLean and Langley High School have all rank in the top 10 schools in Virginia.  There are several private schools, including The Langley School, The Madeira School, The Potomac School, Oakcrest School, Saint Luke School and Saint John School.  If you are looking for higher education, we have over 72 colleges and universities within 50 miles of McLean. 
 

Types of Homes

There are single family homes of all shapes and size, as well as beautiful townhomes tucked away behind the active McLean hub. McLean can boast about some of its current and former residence.  We have had royalty such as Queen Noor, former Vice-President Dick Cheney and his family, U.S. Army General and former Secretary of State Colin Powell, U.S. Supreme Court Justices Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia, and U.S. Senators Byron Dorgan, Patrick Leahy, Don Nickles, and George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley.  Foreign diplomats such as Turki bin Faisal Al Saud and Bandar bin Sultan have also lived in McLean. Other famous residents have included author and political activist Gore Vidaland science fiction writer James Tiptree, Jr.
